On September 4th, East Gippsland Shire Council voted against a motion that essentially asked that Council recognise community opposition to Option 3b, that Council recognise community opposition to Option 3b, that Council abandon its preference for that option, and that Council give further consideration to the lower impact H2 options. See the motion here.
The motion was defeated with 6 councillors voting against, and only 2 voting for it.
The East Gippsland Shire Council is now finalising an application for Coastal Management Act (CMA) consent for Option 3b. This is the final approval needed before the project can proceed.
There is still hope that the Minister for Environment Ryan Smith will refuse CMA consent- there are many valid reasons why he should do so.
However, this is a critical time in the Campaign. We will let you know when the CMA application is lodged. Please watch this space for what you can do to help when this occurs.
